While TWC provides weather forecasts, and insights to its users, MapmyIndia’s expertise will help the company give localised weather information, forecasts and trends with digital identification of hyper-local points or activity on “highly accurate maps”.

Shivalik Prasad, executive director, MapmyIndia, said large organisations such as Food Corporation of India can reduce damage of crops by taking precautions based on hyper local weather updates.

“If you are able to geo-fence in an area and then we look at last four years’ data available with The Weather Company, it gives a confidence that it is going to rain in some parts of Punjab and if the data is available before precaution can be taken to save the crops,” he said.

TWC said such weather data available on the digital maps could also help government bodies deal with natural disasters better.

“Besides government, we are targeting sectors like automotive, sports, agriculture, logistics and disaster management,” said Himanshu Goyal, India Sales and Alliance Leader, TWC.
