ARM has been at the heart of gaming for the last 25 years with their central processing units (CPUs) being used in more than 95% of mobile devices. The graphics processing unit (GPUs) also power more than 50% of smartphones today. Pablo Fraile, director of developer ecosystems, Client Line of Business, ARM, commented on the partnerships by stating: ““With the exponential rise in mobile , the line between quality of content deployable in mobile and console  game platforms is blurring, with the right approach, tools, and optimization techniques, developers are empowered to deliver games at unprecedented quality for mobile devices. Fast Travel Games’ expertise in developing high-quality VR content, combined with the balanced and power-efficiency of ARM IP, will deliver a more immersive gaming experience into the hands of millions of users.”

Though this mobile version is not planned to be released at the current time, Fast Travel Games and ARM will be talking at GDC on 21st March to explore how they ported part of Apex Construct over to mobile platforms. This includes the implemented inside-out tracking using the phone camera and optimizing content to achieve an experience comparable to consoles. By sharing this knowledge it may allow for more developers to consider bringing their titles to mobile platforms as well, expanding the capabilities of VR, leading to a more accessible market.

Currently available for PlayStation VR, Apex Construct will be releasing on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality (MR) on 20th March, 201VRFocus will bring you all the latest on this story as it develops, so stay tuned for more.
