“The past few weeks have been incredible for everyone at Ather Energy. Today, marks the real launch of the company as consumers take their first scooters home and begin to ride them. We will continue to deliver more Ather 450s in batches to the rest of our pre-orders in the coming months. We still have a lot to learn about the final ownership and day to day usage of our vehicles and are looking forward to the next phase of our growth” said Ather co-founder & CEO Tarun Mehta.
Ather Energy had previously opened up pre-orders for its electric scooters against a refundable deposit of Rs 5,000 for customers in Bengaluru in June this year. It claims to have sold out its inventory for the rest of the year, but didn’t disclose any specific numbers.
The company also claimed that it has completed nearly 3500 test rides at its experience centre ‘AtherSpace‘ in Indiranagar, Bengaluru since June this year.
In an earlier interaction with ETtech, Mehta had said they expect to deliver its first production lot of around 2,000 vehicles by early next year.
Ather said it has also started working on rolling out its charging network ‘Ather Grid’ in Chennai and expect to set up its experience center AtherSpace by Q2 2019, followed by other cities.
